An elegant sightseeing base, though the five-star polish is not always consistent. a historic five-star hotel on Via Veneto, scored for what it is.

Grand Hotel Palace Rome is a historic five-star on Via Veneto, opposite the American Embassy. It’s a strong pick for travelers who want a quieter base within walking distance of the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. The frescoed Cadorin restaurant gives it genuine character, while recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms and helpful staff. Overall guest ratings remain strong across Expedia, Booking.com and Tripadvisor.

The reservation-only Fusion Spa is a useful extra, but we’d choose this for location and comfort rather than flawless luxury. Tripadvisor reviews flag uneven maintenance and service, while breakfast draws both enthusiastic praise and complaints about limited variety or lukewarm food. Room layouts and storage also vary. Skip it if meticulous five-star finishing is your priority; otherwise, it’s a comfortable, characterful Rome base.

• Best for: couples sightseeing in Rome; travelers preferring a quieter central base; fans of historic interiors

• Watch out for: uneven five-star finishing and service; mixed breakfast feedback; spa access requires reservations

• Location: Via Veneto opposite the American Embassy; Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and Barberini metro are walkable.

• Rooms: Often praised for space and comfort, but layouts, storage and maintenance vary; Superior rooms are listed at 24 square meters.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings and frequent recent praise outweigh occasional housekeeping complaints.

• Service: Recent Expedia feedback is overwhelmingly positive, though Tripadvisor shows less consistent front-desk and problem handling.

• Amenities: Frescoed restaurant, terrace, bar, gym and Fusion Spa; exclusive spa access is by reservation.

• Fees and surprises: City tax applies; parking costs extra, and breakfast is chargeable unless included in your booking.
