Axel's take: 8.7/10

Friendly service and clean rooms make this a dependable base for drivers. a select-service Hampton by I-40, outside downtown Chapel Hill, scored for what it is.

This select-service Hampton near I-40 is a strong pick for university visits, medical appointments and straightforward overnight stops. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, clean rooms and well-stocked breakfast; Booking.com’s strong cleanliness and comfort scores reinforce that picture. It delivers the essentials well, with included hot breakfast, Wi-Fi and a gym. One-bedroom suites add a separate living area, useful for families or longer visits.

The main compromise is location: this is a driving base, not a downtown hotel for exploring Chapel Hill on foot. Parking costs extra despite some listings still describing it as free, and there is no airport shuttle. Some guests report minor room-maintenance issues, but these do not outweigh the broadly positive feedback. We’d skip it for a car-free getaway.

• Best for: university visitors with a car; medical visits and accompanying families; families wanting separate living space

• Watch out for: paid parking despite outdated free-parking listings; not a walkable downtown base; no airport shuttle

• Location: Near I-40 and Highway 54; practical for driving to UNC and around the Triangle.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and well reviewed; one-bedroom suites offer separate living areas, though occasional maintenance complaints appear.

• Cleanliness: Consistently praised across recent guest reviews and supported by strong aggregate cleanliness scores.

• Service: A standout: guests repeatedly describe friendly, helpful front-desk and breakfast staff.

• Amenities: Included hot breakfast, Wi-Fi and gym; an outdoor pool is advertised, but confirm seasonal availability.

• Fees and surprises: Hilton confirms paid self-parking and a nonrefundable pet fee; no airport shuttle.
