Axel's take: 7.3/10

Good family water fun, but uneven upkeep and current renovations weaken the luxury promise. a large, upscale beachfront all-inclusive for families, scored for what it is.

Royalton Bavaro is a sprawling, upscale beachfront all-inclusive whose strongest case is family fun rather than polished luxury. The long lazy river, splash areas and tropical grounds give children plenty to enjoy. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests frequently praise individual staff members, especially butlers, and many recent Expedia reviewers describe clean, comfortable stays. We'd consider it for an activity-filled family holiday, with expectations set below the luxury marketing.

The trade-offs are recurring reports of tired rooms, inconsistent housekeeping, slow problem-solving and frustrating dinner reservations; food also divides opinion. Renovations matter now: Air Canada Vacations schedules Royalton pool maintenance through October 26, 2026, with Rio Brazilian Grill, Sky Terrace and selected accommodation work through November 2. Other pools and restaurants remain available, but confirm access before booking. We'd skip it for a food-focused escape or reliably polished service.

• Best for: families who prioritize pools and water activities; travelers happy with a large resort

• Watch out for: pool, dining and accommodation renovations through early November 2026; uneven room upkeep and housekeeping; dinner reservations and service delays

• Location: Beachfront at Arena Gorda; the extensive grounds mean substantial walking.

• Rooms: Suite-style accommodation with balconies or terraces; recurring reports of wear and maintenance faults.

• Cleanliness: Many recent guests praise cleanliness, but housekeeping and pool upkeep are not consistently reliable.

• Service: Individual staff earn enthusiastic praise; check-in and resolving problems can be slow.

• Amenities: Lazy river, pools, splash areas, dining, spa and casino; phased renovations restrict some facilities.

• Fees and surprises: FlowRider costs extra; confirm renovation closures and exactly which Diamond Club benefits your booking includes.
