Axel's take: 7.9/10
Welcoming staff and easy beach days outweigh dated rooms, but check construction before booking. A relaxed mid-range beach-and-golf hotel with separate condos, not an all-inclusive resort, scored for what it is.
Blue JackTar is a relaxed mid-range hotel in gated Playa Dorada, better for independent beach days than an all-inclusive holiday. We'd choose it for the leafy grounds, beach club and welcoming service rather than four-star polish. Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise the staff, cleanliness and included breakfast. The hotel puts the beach about 200 meters away, so expect a short walk rather than sand outside every room.
The main compromise is uneven upkeep: dated furniture and maintenance complaints recur, while Booking.com's weak Wi-Fi score makes this a questionable work base. Check photos of your exact accommodation; the hotel also markets separate condos. A February 2026 Tripadvisor guest reported substantial on-site construction of a multistory complex, with intermittent but manageable noise; its current status needs confirming. We'd skip it for sleek rooms, dependable connectivity or guaranteed peace.
-
Best for: Couples seeking relaxed beach days; Golfers; Families comfortable without all-inclusive extras
-
Watch out for: On-site construction reported in February 2026; confirm status; Dated rooms and uneven maintenance; Unreliable Wi-Fi
-
Location: Gated Playa Dorada setting beside golf, with the beach roughly 200 meters from the hotel.
-
Rooms: Hotel rooms and separate condos are distinct options; dated furnishings and maintenance issues recur in reviews.
-
Cleanliness: Generally a strength across recent Expedia and Booking.com guest feedback, despite occasional exceptions.
-
Service: Friendly, helpful staff are among the most consistent positives across booking sites.
-
Amenities: Outdoor pool, beach club, gym and restaurants; the hotel confirms no on-site spa or kids' club.
-
Fees and surprises: Breakfast and limited parking are included; this is not all-inclusive, and February 2026 construction reports warrant checking.
