Axel's take: 8.2/10

A dependable downtown base with friendly staff, best explored without a car. a practical 3-star downtown business hotel, scored for what it is.

This practical 3-star downtown hotel is a strong pick for travelers who want easy sightseeing rather than a destination hotel. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, clean rooms and central location, with MAX light rail close by. Comfortable beds earn plenty of mentions, too. We'd choose it for a car-free city break or straightforward business stay; the restaurant, bar and 24-hour gym cover the useful basics.

The trade-offs are dated rooms, variable natural light and some street or train noise. Recent guests differ on the surrounding blocks: many like the walkability, while others feel uncomfortable with visible homelessness and street conditions. Valet parking is expensive, breakfast isn't complimentary, and Marriott lists housekeeping every other day. We'd skip it if you want a polished retreat or daily room servicing.

• Best for: car-free city breaks; downtown business travelers; sightseers prioritizing location

• Watch out for: expensive valet parking; dated rooms and variable daylight; street noise and uneven surrounding streets

• Location: Central and walkable, with MAX nearby; guest comfort with the surrounding streets varies.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable, though recent reviews mention dated finishes and some dark room layouts.

• Cleanliness: Positive overall across major sites; occasional lapses do not outweigh the broader praise.

• Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff are the most consistent strength across reviews.

• Amenities: The Social Spoon restaurant and bar, a 24-hour gym and guest laundry cover the basics.

• Fees and surprises: Paid valet and pet fees; breakfast is not complimentary and housekeeping is every other day.
