#1 of 2 hotels in Aker Brygge & Tjuvholmen by Axel's take. Aker Brygge & Tjuvholmen is #7 of 12 places to stay in Oslo. The best hotels in Aker Brygge & Tjuvholmen, ranked · Where to stay in Oslo

Axel's take: 8.5/10

Stylish waterfront luxury, but the pool closure currently weakens the appeal. a five-star waterfront design hotel on Oslo’s Tjuvholmen, scored for what it is.

The Thief is a five-star waterfront design hotel on Tjuvholmen, and a strong pick for a stylish Oslo break. You’re beside the Astrup Fearnley museum and close to Aker Brygge’s restaurants. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise comfortable rooms and helpful staff; Booking.com feedback also supports its strengths in comfort and cleanliness. Strawberry lists a 2025 renovation, and recent guests remain enthusiastic about breakfast.

The important catch right now: the hotel says THIEF Spa’s heated pool is temporarily closed because of a technical problem, although other spa facilities remain open. We’d skip it for a swimming-focused stay until reopening is confirmed. Breakfast and spa access aren’t automatically included, and Nationaltheatret station is about a 12-minute walk away. It suits travelers who prioritize waterfront surroundings over doorstep transit and an all-inclusive luxury experience.

  • Best for: couples seeking a stylish city break; art and design enthusiasts; travelers prioritizing waterfront dining

  • Watch out for: Heated spa pool temporarily closed; Breakfast and spa access may cost extra; Roughly 12-minute walk to Nationaltheatret

  • Location: Waterfront Tjuvholmen setting beside the Astrup Fearnley museum, with restaurants nearby.

  • Rooms: Comfortable, well-equipped rooms with balconies; entry-level rooms are listed at 24 square meters.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings on Booking.com and Expedia outweigh scattered complaints.

  • Service: Recent reviews predominantly praise helpful, attentive staff, despite occasional service failures.

  • Amenities: Gym, restaurants, bars and spa; the heated spa pool is currently closed, while other spa facilities remain open.

  • Fees and surprises: Check breakfast and spa inclusions before booking; parking is charged separately.
