#6 of 6 hotels in St. Olavs Plass & Holbergs Plass by Axel's take. St. Olavs Plass & Holbergs Plass is #4 of 12 places to stay in Oslo. The best hotels in St. Olavs Plass & Holbergs Plass, ranked · Where to stay in Oslo

Axel's take: 7.8/10

A practical Oslo base with excellent breakfast, but tram noise compromises sleep. a renovated mid-range city hotel near Oslo’s Royal Palace, scored for what it is.

Scandic Holberg is a renovated mid-range city hotel near the Royal Palace, best for travelers who put walkability before extensive facilities. Scandic says it reopened after a major refurbishment in February 2025. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the breakfast, convenient location and generally helpful staff. We'd pick it for a short sightseeing or business stay rather than a hotel-centered break.

The main catch is sleep quality. Several recent guests describe tram noise and warm rooms, an awkward combination when opening the window is the easiest way to cool down. The official room descriptions promise ventilation, not individually controlled air conditioning. Standard rooms and some bathrooms are compact, despite the refresh. Light sleepers and travelers who need reliable cooling should look elsewhere; otherwise, request an inward-facing room.

  • Best for: short sightseeing breaks; business travelers using public transport; breakfast enthusiasts

  • Watch out for: tram noise in street-facing rooms; warm rooms without individually controlled cooling; compact standard rooms and bathrooms

  • Location: Near Slottsparken, with trams outside and Nationaltheatret station about ten minutes away on foot.

  • Rooms: Refurbished in 2025; standard doubles are 15–20 square meters, with ventilation rather than promised air conditioning.

  • Cleanliness: Recent Expedia feedback is largely positive; isolated maintenance and housekeeping complaints appear on Tripadvisor.

  • Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise, though some guests report uneven complaint handling.

  • Amenities: Well-liked breakfast buffet, lobby bar, free Wi-Fi and a small gym.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra depending on the booking; parking is off-site, and the hotel is cash-free.
