#1 of 4 hotels in Holmenkollen by Axel's take. Holmenkollen is #12 of 12 places to stay in Oslo. The best hotels in Holmenkollen, ranked · Where to stay in Oslo

Axel's take: 8.6/10

Choose Lysebu for forest walks and historic charm, not doorstep city sightseeing. a historic, lodge-style 4-star in the wooded hills above Oslo, scored for what it is.

Lysebu is a historic, lodge-style 4-star in the wooded hills above Oslo, and we'd choose it for a countryside-feeling break rather than a city-centre base. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the peaceful surroundings, welcoming reception staff and comfortable rooms. Breakfast is another frequent highlight, while art-filled lounges, an indoor pool and a sauna give you reasons to linger between walks.

The trade-off is convenience: allow roughly 45 minutes to reach central Oslo by foot and metro, including an uphill walk back. Restaurant service and buffet replenishment draw repeated complaints alongside plenty of praise, so don't expect flawless dining. Parking and wellness access cost extra, and housekeeping on longer stays must be requested. We'd skip it for a packed sightseeing itinerary; it's a stronger fit for couples and outdoor-minded travelers.

Best for: couples seeking a quiet break; hikers and cross-country skiers; travelers who enjoy historic hotels
Watch out for: uphill walk from the metro; parking and wellness charges; uneven restaurant service
Location: Wooded Holmenkollen setting; approximately 35 minutes by metro plus a 10-minute uphill walk.
Rooms: Generally praised for comfort; standard singles are compact, so choose your room category carefully.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength, with high cleanliness ratings on Booking.com and Expedia.
Service: Reception earns strong praise; dining service and buffet replenishment are less consistent.
Amenities: Indoor pool, sauna, gym, restaurant and lounges; hiking and skiing opportunities nearby.
Fees and surprises: Parking and wellness access are charged; request housekeeping for longer stays. Christmas closure: December 20, 2026–January 4, 2027.
