#7 of 7 hotels in Kvadraturen by Axel's take. Kvadraturen is #3 of 12 places to stay in Oslo. The best hotels in Kvadraturen, ranked · Where to stay in Oslo

Axel's take: 7.2/10

A practical central base, with good breakfast but rooms showing their age. a simple, older mid-range hotel in central Oslo, scored for what it is.

First Hotel Millennium is a simple, older mid-range hotel whose strongest asset is its central Oslo location. We'd consider it for a sightseeing break rather than a hotel-focused stay: Karl Johans gate, public transport and the waterfront are within easy reach. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently rate the location and staff above the facilities, while breakfast earns repeated praise. It's a sensible choice if convenience matters more than fresh interiors.

The trade-off is wear: dated furniture and bathrooms recur across reviews, alongside some reports of street noise and uncomfortable summer heat. Don't assume the catalog's air conditioning is available; the hotel's Booking.com response says otherwise. New owners announced a major upgrade in February 2026, but we couldn't confirm its timing or completion. We'd skip it if modern rooms, reliable cooling or quiet nights are priorities.

  • Best for: short sightseeing breaks; travelers exploring without a car; guests prioritizing breakfast and location

  • Watch out for: dated rooms and bathrooms; summer heat and possible street noise; announced upgrade with unconfirmed timing

  • Location: Very central, near Karl Johans gate and transit; roughly 700 meters from Oslo Central Station.

  • Rooms: Functional rather than fresh; recurring wear complaints, with air conditioning not reliably supported by the evidence.

  • Cleanliness: Generally acceptable aggregate scores, but housekeeping consistency draws some complaints.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength across booking and review sites.

  • Amenities: The hotel lists included breakfast, free Wi-Fi, a reception bar and luggage storage.

  • Fees and surprises: Paid parking is off-site; pets cost extra, the hotel is cash-free, and upgrade dates remain unconfirmed.
