#4 of 7 hotels in Kvadraturen by Axel's take. Kvadraturen is #3 of 12 places to stay in Oslo. The best hotels in Kvadraturen, ranked · Where to stay in Oslo

Axel's take: 8.1/10

A strong sightseeing base, provided you can live with compact rooms and occasional noise. a simple, design-led 3-star in central Oslo, scored for what it is.

Comfort Hotel Karl Johan is a simple, design-led 3-star that makes most sense for a short Oslo city break. Five minutes’ walk from Central Station, it puts sightseeing, restaurants and transport within easy reach. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the breakfast, helpful staff and generally clean rooms. We'd pick it for convenience and straightforward comfort rather than generous space; the courtyard, bar and 24-hour gym add useful extras.

The compromises are small rooms, limited storage and variable quiet: guests mention both peaceful stays and noise from trams or courtyard music. Ask for a quiet room rather than assuming courtyard-facing means silent. The hotel specifies housekeeping every fourth day, and breakfast inclusion depends on your booking. We'd skip the compact categories for longer stays or substantial luggage, and choose elsewhere if dependable silence is essential.

  • Best for: short sightseeing breaks; travelers arriving by train; couples packing light

  • Watch out for: small rooms and limited storage; tram or courtyard-bar noise in some rooms; housekeeping every fourth day

  • Location: On Karl Johans gate, roughly five minutes on foot from Central Station.

  • Rooms: Compact doubles are officially 12–14 m²; standard rooms offer more breathing room.

  • Cleanliness: Generally praised across recent Booking.com and Expedia reviews; routine cleaning is every fourth day.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are a consistent strength in recent guest feedback.

  • Amenities: 24-hour gym and reception, courtyard, bar, restaurant and free Wi-Fi.

  • Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; pets cost extra, and the suggested parking garage is 500 metres away.
