Axel's take: 7.7/10

A good downtown base if tiny rooms and shared bathrooms suit you. a budget hostel with private micro-rooms and shared bathrooms in the West Village, scored for what it is.

West Village Eurohostel is a budget hostel with private, ship-cabin-style rooms—not a conventional hotel. We'd consider it for a mostly-outdoors Manhattan trip: the West Village address is the main draw, with the Hudson waterfront and neighborhood cafés close by. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and clean rooms; Tripadvisor feedback also supports the friendly service, though ratings across booking sites vary considerably.

The compromise is substantial: both single and bunk rooms are approximately 50 square feet, and every bathroom is shared. There's no restaurant, and checkout is an early 10am. The official site now restricts stays to adults, despite older family reviews elsewhere. We'd skip it for spacious accommodation, private bathrooms or a family trip; for independent travelers packing light, it's a practical location-first choice.

  • Best for: solo travelers packing light; budget-minded adult friends; West Village exploring

  • Watch out for: extremely small rooms; shared bathrooms only; adults only; 10am checkout

  • Location: Strong for the Hudson waterfront and downtown exploring; subway stations are roughly an eight-to-ten-minute walk.

  • Rooms: Single and two-person bunk rooms are approximately 50 square feet, with under-bed storage; select rooms have been updated.

  • Cleanliness: Recent Expedia feedback is strongly positive, but lower Booking.com scores make the cross-site picture less consistent.

  • Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a recurring strength; the official site confirms a 24-hour front desk.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, TVs, safes, paid self-service laundry and a lobby bodega; no dining facilities.

  • Fees and surprises: A credit card matching the guest's ID is required for the security deposit; cash and debit cards cannot cover it.
