Axel's take: 7.8/10

A practical downtown base with spacious rooms, but service and noise can disappoint. a contemporary 3-star hotel in downtown Newark, scored for what it is.

TRYP is a contemporary 3-star downtown hotel we'd choose for Newark events or a short business stay. NJPAC and Prudential Center are within walking distance, and Newark Penn Station is roughly ten minutes away on foot. Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms; Dutch's restaurant and the complimentary airport shuttle add convenience. It's a good fit when Newark itself is your destination.

The trade-offs are inconsistent service and recurring mechanical noise. Recent Tripadvisor and Trip.com reviews describe loud air-conditioning or ventilation, while reception gets both warm praise and complaints about unhelpful responses. Parking and breakfast cost extra. We'd skip it if you're a light sleeper or want Manhattan sightseeing without a daily commute; otherwise, it delivers useful comfort without being especially polished.

• Best for: NJPAC and Prudential Center visitors; short downtown business stays; travelers comfortable commuting to Manhattan

• Watch out for: air-conditioning and ventilation noise; inconsistent front-desk service; extra charges for parking and breakfast

• Location: Walkable to Newark venues and roughly ten minutes from Newark Penn Station.

• Rooms: Often described as spacious and comfortable, but mechanical noise affects some rooms.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Expedia and Trip.com, despite individual exceptions.

• Service: Many guests praise helpful staff, but dismissive reception recurs in critical reviews.

• Amenities: Dutch's restaurant and bar, a gym, free Wi-Fi and a complimentary airport shuttle.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast and self-parking carry additional charges; confirm shuttle arrangements before arrival.
