Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong Brooklyn base for kitchenettes, friendly service and easy subway access. a practical 3-star extended-stay hotel in Gowanus, near Park Slope, scored for what it is.

This is a practical 3-star extended-stay hotel in Gowanus, near Park Slope, and a strong pick for visiting family or settling into Brooklyn for several nights. Kitchenettes, included hot breakfast and guest laundry make it genuinely useful rather than fancy. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff and clean, comfortable rooms; the nearby Union Street R train adds convenience.

The trade-offs are mostly practical: some suites are compact, breakfast is functional rather than special, and Marriott lists only 20 paid parking spaces, first come, first served. One recent Tripadvisor guest flags poor daylight and lobby noise on the first floor, so a higher-floor request is sensible. We'd choose it for a Brooklyn-centered stay, but skip it if you want generous space or Manhattan sights outside the door.

• Best for: visiting family in Brooklyn; longer stays with self-catering; travelers prioritizing friendly service

• Watch out for: limited paid parking; no advance reservations; some compact suites; check room floor and daylight

• Location: Gowanus near Park Slope, with the Union Street R train a short walk away.

• Rooms: Kitchen-equipped studios and suites; some layouts are compact, so check the room type.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall marks across booking sites, reinforced by repeated recent praise.

• Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff are the clearest recurring strength.

• Amenities: Included hot breakfast, fitness center and on-site guest laundry support longer stays.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra and is limited to 20 first-come spaces; pets incur a nonrefundable fee.
