Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong Midtown pick for extra space, with dated interiors and elevator frustrations. a residential-style, all-suite 4-star timeshare hotel in Midtown, scored for what it is.

The Manhattan Club is a residential-style, all-suite 4-star timeshare hotel, and we'd choose it for space and sightseeing convenience rather than luxury polish. Central Park, Carnegie Hall and Broadway are close by. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise roomy suites, cleanliness and helpful staff; kitchenettes make takeout meals easier, and some one-bedroom suites have two bathrooms. It's a strong pick for families who value breathing room over fashionable design.

The trade-offs are aging interiors and recurring elevator delays. The hotel's newsletter describes an elevator modernization project, but its projected completion date has passed without clear confirmation that everything is finished; check before booking. Some guests also report noise and awkward temperature control. Factor in the mandatory destination fee and separate sofa-bed setup charge. We'd skip it if contemporary finishes and reliably quick elevators matter more than space.

• Best for: families wanting larger suites; Broadway and Carnegie Hall visitors; longer sightseeing stays

• Watch out for: elevator modernization and recurring waits; dated interiors and variable temperature control; mandatory destination and sofa-bed setup fees

• Location: Walkable Midtown base near Central Park, theaters and several subway stations.

• Rooms: Generous suites with kitchenettes; some have two bathrooms, but dated fittings, noise and temperature complaints recur.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength overall, supported by recent guest accounts and strong cleanliness ratings.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff earn frequent praise, although complaint handling is less consistent.

• Amenities: Upper-floor lounge/bar and fitness center; no pool, and breakfast is included only with qualifying packages.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory daily destination fee, incidental deposit, paid parking and sofa-bed setup charge; elevator modernization completion remains unconfirmed.
