Axel's take: 7.8/10

A practical pre-cruise pick, let down by breakfast and less convenient for sightseeing. a no-frills 3-star in Brooklyn’s industrial Red Hook neighborhood, scored for what it is.

The Lodge Red Hook is a no-frills 3-star that makes most sense before a Brooklyn cruise or for a stay focused on this neighborhood. We'd pick it for comfortable beds, generally clean rooms and helpful reception staff: those strengths recur across Expedia, Booking.com and Tripadvisor. The industrial surroundings won't suit everyone, but guests do find restaurants within walking distance; this isn't the dining desert some reviews suggest.

The clearest weakness is breakfast. Recent guests across several sites describe a basic bagged offering rather than the buffet older reviews praise; check whether your booking includes it. Parking costs extra and spaces are limited, while the subway requires a walk. Summer 2026 guests also reported nearby construction affecting vehicle access, so confirm current conditions. We'd skip it for a Manhattan-heavy itinerary or if a substantial hotel breakfast matters.

• Best for: Brooklyn cruise passengers; Red Hook neighborhood visits; Travelers happy with simple comforts

• Watch out for: Basic bagged breakfast; Walk to the subway; Limited paid parking; check construction access

• Location: Useful for the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal; industrial surroundings and a walk to subway connections.

• Rooms: Simple, functional rooms; comfortable beds are a consistent strength.

• Cleanliness: Broadly positive across major sites, with some recent housekeeping lapses rather than a dominant pattern.

• Service: Reception staff earn frequent praise, although individual experiences vary.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi and limited onsite parking; recent breakfast reports describe bags rather than a buffet.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and early or late checkout can cost extra; confirm breakfast inclusion and current nearby construction.
