Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong Broadway base with roomy bedrooms and more character than the usual chain. a design-led 4-star hotel near Broadway, scored for what it is.

Romer Hell’s Kitchen is a design-led 4-star hotel that makes a strong base for Broadway and Midtown sightseeing. The former Hampton Inn now has its own identity, with colorful interiors, a welcoming lobby café and So & So’s piano bar. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, generous room sizes by Manhattan standards, cleanliness and friendly staff. We’d choose it for comfort and character without expecting full luxury service.

The trade-offs are mostly practical: some guests report street or corridor noise, and a smaller number describe uneven housekeeping or front-desk service. Breakfast isn’t automatically included, there’s no room service, and fitness access means walking to a nearby partner gym. Light sleepers should request a quiet room; travelers wanting extensive on-site facilities should look elsewhere.

• Best for: Broadway theatergoers; couples exploring Midtown; families wanting two queen beds

• Watch out for: some street and corridor noise; breakfast inclusion depends on booking; gym is off-site; no room service

• Location: Excellent for theaters, nearby subway stations, Hell’s Kitchen restaurants and walks to Central Park.

• Rooms: Stylish, generally spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds; some guests find bathrooms less polished.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, with occasional reports of missed cleaning details rather than a dominant problem.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff are a recurring strength, though front-desk handling is not uniformly consistent.

• Amenities: Lobby café, piano bar and neighborhood shop; fitness passes cover a nearby Crunch gym.

• Fees and surprises: Parking, pets and guaranteed late checkout carry charges; confirm breakfast inclusions before booking.
