Axel's take: 6.8/10

Book for Broadway convenience, not four-star polish. A basic, design-led Times Square hotel with private rooms and group bunk rooms, scored for what it is.

Paramount is a basic, design-led hotel behind a theatrical lobby, rather than the polished four-star its listing suggests. Its strongest asset is the location: Broadway theaters, Times Square and subway connections are close by. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, and many report clean rooms and comfortable beds. We'd consider it for a short, sightseeing-heavy stay where the room is mainly somewhere to sleep.

The compromise is upstairs. Standard doubles measure just 120 square feet, and guest reports flag dated bathrooms, noisy heating or air-conditioning and uneven maintenance. Cleanliness feedback is more reassuring on Expedia than on Tripadvisor, so consistency remains a concern. A nightly facility fee also applies. Skip it if you want spacious rooms, dependable quiet or a reliably upscale experience.

• Best for: Broadway-focused short breaks; Sightseers prioritizing location; Groups booking private bunk rooms

• Watch out for: Very small entry-level rooms; Uneven upkeep and noisy climate control; Nightly facility fee

• Location: Excellent for Broadway and Times Square, with several subway connections nearby.

• Rooms: Standard doubles are 120 square feet; larger rooms exist, but dated fittings and climate-control noise recur in reviews.

• Cleanliness: Many recent guests report clean rooms, but Tripadvisor contains repeated housekeeping complaints.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn frequent praise, though problem handling is not uniformly reliable.

• Amenities: Café, lobby bar, fitness center and private four- or six-bed bunk rooms; more practical than luxurious.

• Fees and surprises: A nightly facility fee plus tax and a card security deposit apply; confirm what your booking includes.
