Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong downtown base if you want nightlife more than room to spread out. a nightlife-focused 4-star with compact rooms on the Bowery, scored for what it is.

Moxy NYC Lower East Side is a nightlife-focused 4-star that trades room space for a lively downtown address. We'd pick it for a short, social city break: SoHo, Nolita and Chinatown are easy to explore, and subway access is close. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. The rooftop bar, Japanese restaurant and nightclub make the public spaces part of the attraction, not just somewhere to check in.

The compact bedrooms are the main compromise, with clever storage rather than generous unpacking space. Noise reports vary: plenty of guests sleep well, but others describe late-night music and bass. We'd skip it for a reliably quiet retreat or a long stay with lots of luggage. Ask about the destination fee and its credit restrictions, and check rooftop availability before counting on an evening there.

• Best for: couples on short city breaks; nightlife-focused friends; downtown shopping and dining

• Watch out for: compact rooms and limited storage; late-night music in some rooms; destination-fee credit restrictions

• Location: Walkable Bowery base near SoHo, Nolita and Chinatown, with subway stations close by.

• Rooms: Small but thoughtfully arranged; comfortable beds and space-saving storage draw praise.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback, with particularly strong Expedia ratings.

• Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff and doormen are recurring highlights.

• Amenities: Gym, café, Japanese restaurant, rooftop bar and nightclub; breakfast is not complimentary.

• Fees and surprises: Confirm destination-fee inclusions and eligible credit outlets; rooftop access can be limited by private events.
