Axel's take: 8.1/10

A strong sightseeing base if you pack light and accept genuinely tiny rooms. a modern, compact-room 4-star near Times Square, scored for what it is.

Motto is a modern, compact-room 4-star that works best as a base for exploring, not somewhere to spread out. Its location near Broadway, Rockefeller Center and subway stations is the main draw. Expedia and Booking.com guests consistently praise cleanliness and helpful staff, while Tripadvisor reviews reinforce the comfortable-bed, tiny-room trade-off. We'd shortlist it for a short theater trip, especially for solo travelers or couples traveling light.

The compromises are more than cosmetic: luggage space is tight, and sliding bathroom doors offer limited privacy. Several guests also report sound carrying between connecting rooms. A mandatory daily destination charge adds another consideration, even with its included credits and perks. Some 2026 reviews mention street-construction noise; ask whether work still affects your room. We'd skip it for a spacious four-star experience, a working holiday or sharing with someone you need bathroom privacy from.

• Best for: short Broadway and sightseeing trips; solo travelers packing light; couples comfortable sharing tight quarters

• Watch out for: very small rooms and limited bathroom privacy; sound between connecting rooms; check street works; mandatory daily destination charge

• Location: Excellent for theaters, Rockefeller Center and subway access; expect Times Square crowds.

• Rooms: Modern and generally comfortable, but unusually compact, with limited luggage space and bathroom privacy.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn frequent praise, though occasional inconsistencies appear.

• Amenities: Restaurant, café/bar, fitness center and free Wi-Fi; no on-site parking.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory destination charge includes dining credit and other perks; 2026 street-construction reports warrant checking.
