Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong central base with comfortable rooms and staff who usually deliver. an upscale 4-star high-rise on the Chelsea–Midtown edge, scored for what it is.

Kimpton Eventi is an upscale 4-star high-rise on the Chelsea–Midtown edge, and we'd put it firmly on the shortlist for a comfortable, well-connected Manhattan stay. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds; Booking.com guests also highlight roomy bathrooms and easy access to Penn Station. Restaurants downstairs, a gym and the evening social hour give it more substance than a stylish lobby alone.

The trade-offs are mostly practical: Expedia lists a mandatory nightly resort fee, with breakfast and valet parking extra. Some recent guests describe service or maintenance hiccups, but those don't outweigh the broadly positive picture. We'd choose it for sightseeing, business or Madison Square Garden—not for a quiet neighborhood escape or a stay without added fees.

• Best for: Madison Square Garden visitors; sightseers arriving at Penn Station; business travelers wanting dining downstairs

• Watch out for: mandatory nightly resort fee; breakfast and valet parking cost extra; occasional service and maintenance hiccups

• Location: Convenient for Penn Station, Herald Square subways and Madison Square Garden.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds, large windows and spacious bathrooms earn repeated praise.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Expedia, Tripadvisor and Booking.com feedback.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff dominate reviews, with occasional lapses in follow-through.

• Amenities: On-site restaurants and bar, a 24-hour gym, cruiser bikes and evening social hour.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a nightly resort fee and deposit; breakfast and valet parking are extra.
