Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong family base with free parking and easy Manhattan bus access. a practical 3-star hotel near the Meadowlands Exposition Center, scored for what it is.

This practical 3-star Hyatt Place is a strong pick for families who want room to spread out without driving into Manhattan. Spacious rooms with sleeper sofas, free breakfast and free parking make it good value for this kind of stay. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, comfortable rooms and nearby bus stop for direct service to Port Authority. The adjacent Meadowlands Exposition Center is another clear advantage.

The trade-off is consistency rather than a lack of basics. Most guests report clean rooms, but housekeeping misses and maintenance problems recur alongside complaints about elevator, air-conditioning and neighboring-room noise. Breakfast is useful rather than a reason to book, with mixed feedback on variety. We'd request a room away from the elevators and skip it if quiet sleep or stepping straight into Manhattan matters most.

• Best for: families visiting New York by bus; drivers wanting free parking; Meadowlands convention visitors

• Watch out for: elevator and air-conditioning noise; occasional housekeeping and maintenance misses; Manhattan visits require a bus journey

• Location: Beside the exposition center, with nearby restaurants and direct Manhattan bus service.

• Rooms: Spacious layouts with sleeper sofas and minifridges; request distance from elevators.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised, although cleaning lapses recur in a minority of recent reviews.

• Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff are one of the most consistent positives.

• Amenities: Free breakfast, Wi-Fi and parking, plus a 24-hour gym and lobby dining.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is complimentary; dogs incur a stay fee, with an additional cleaning fee for longer visits.
