Axel's take: 7.8/10

A strong Broadway base, but room choice and extra charges matter. a historic 4-star with a practical, mid-range feel in Times Square, scored for what it is.

Hotel Edison is a historic 4-star with a practical, mid-range feel, and we'd pick it for Broadway convenience rather than luxury. Its Art Deco character, on-site restaurants and Rum House bar give it more personality than a generic sightseeing base. Recent Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise the location, housekeeping and helpful staff. For travelers spending most of their time exploring, it delivers the essentials well.

The trade-offs are street noise, variable room experiences and charges that chip away at value. The hotel now advertises new top-floor Marquee rooms, so don't assume every category matches those photos or amenities. A mandatory nightly facility fee includes grab-and-go breakfast for two—not a full breakfast for everyone—and refrigerators can cost extra in other categories. We'd skip it for a quiet retreat or consistently upscale four-star comfort.

• Best for: Broadway theatergoers; first-time New York sightseers; travelers prioritizing location over luxury

• Watch out for: Times Square street noise; room categories differ in finish and amenities; mandatory facility fee and additional service charges

• Location: Excellent for Broadway, Times Square and nearby subway stations; expect busy sidewalks.

• Rooms: Compact entry categories; new top-floor Marquee rooms include amenities not standard throughout.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength across Booking.com and recent Expedia feedback, despite occasional exceptions.

• Service: Helpful staff receive frequent praise; complaint handling is less consistently positive.

• Amenities: Three dining and drinking venues, a 24-hour gym, walking tours and scheduled wine hours.

• Fees and surprises: Nightly facility fee includes breakfast for two; luggage storage, parking and some refrigerator requests cost extra.
