Axel's take: 7.8/10

A practical Chelsea base with helpful staff, included breakfast and some tired edges. a no-frills, limited-service chain hotel in Chelsea, scored for what it is.

Hampton Inn Manhattan-Chelsea is a no-frills chain hotel whose strongest selling point is its location, not its interiors. We'd pick it for sightseeing days: nearby subway stations make getting around straightforward, and included hot breakfast adds useful value. Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the convenient location, generally clean rooms and helpful staff. It's a good fit if you want a functional Manhattan base rather than somewhere to linger.

The trade-offs are compact rooms and visible wear, with recent Expedia guests mentioning shabby seating and worn corridor carpets. Breakfast earns mixed reviews despite its convenience. Elevator reliability also deserves attention: multiple guests reported one lift out of service in mid-2026, alongside long waits. Confirm repairs before booking if stairs aren't an option. We'd skip it for spacious rooms or a polished hotel experience.

• Best for: value-minded Manhattan sightseers; travelers prioritizing subway access; guests who appreciate included breakfast

• Watch out for: compact rooms and worn common areas; recurring elevator complaints in 2026; mixed breakfast feedback

• Location: Chelsea base near 23rd Street subway stations, with convenient access uptown and downtown.

• Rooms: Functional but often compact; condition is a weaker point than location.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive recent feedback, despite some individual lapses.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a recurring strength in guest reviews.

• Amenities: Free hot breakfast, WiFi and a fitness center; breakfast quality divides guests.

• Fees and surprises: Valet parking costs extra without in/out privileges; pets incur a fee. Confirm elevator repairs.
