Axel's take: 8.4/10

Warm service and a handy Midtown address outweigh some dated edges. a traditional 4-star boutique hotel in Midtown East, scored for what it is.

Fitzpatrick Manhattan is a traditional 4-star boutique hotel in Midtown East, and we'd pick it for personal service rather than contemporary polish. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms; suites earn particular praise for space. Fifth Avenue, Central Park and subway connections are conveniently close, while the Irish restaurant and bar give the place more character than a standard business hotel.

The trade-off is an older building that doesn't feel uniformly fresh. Recent reviews across sites mention tired bathrooms, worn furnishings and rooms needing an update, although positive cleanliness reports substantially outweigh complaints. Hotels.com lists a mandatory nightly resort fee, so check your booking's inclusions; breakfast and parking cost extra. We'd skip it if sleek interiors and extensive on-site facilities matter more than a friendly, well-located base.

• Best for: Midtown sightseeing; Travelers who value personal service; Families booking a suite

• Watch out for: Some tired rooms and bathrooms; Resort fee listed on Hotels.com; Gym access is off-site

• Location: Walkable Midtown East base near Fifth Avenue, Central Park and Lexington Avenue subway connections.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and roomy suites draw praise; condition and freshness vary.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall across booking sites, despite occasional room-condition complaints.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff are the clearest recurring strength; occasional reception delays appear.

• Amenities: Irish restaurant and bar; the hotel advertises access to nearby TMPL Gym rather than an in-house gym.

• Fees and surprises: Hotels.com lists a nightly resort fee; breakfast and parking are extra. Confirm Wi-Fi and gym inclusions because official pages conflict.
