Axel's take: 8.3/10

Warm service and a superb location outweigh unevenly updated rooms. A traditional Irish-owned 4-star boutique hotel beside Grand Central, scored for what it is.

Fitzpatrick Grand Central is a traditional Irish-owned 4-star boutique hotel, strongest on hospitality and convenience rather than contemporary polish. We'd choose it for a Midtown stay with easy train connections and a personable welcome. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, comfortable beds, cleanliness and reasonably generous rooms for Manhattan. The attached Wheeltapper pub and patio add character without needing to leave the building.

The catch is consistency: some rooms have refreshed bathrooms, while others still draw complaints about tired carpets, dated furnishings and noisy air-conditioning. Bathroom renovations remain underway on the final two floors, according to an October 2026 owner interview; confirm the work's proximity before booking. Lower rooms can hear the pub, and Expedia lists a mandatory nightly resort fee. We'd skip it for sleek luxury or guaranteed quiet, but it's a strong, friendly city base.

• Best for: Sightseers using Grand Central; Travelers who value personable service; Couples who enjoy a traditional pub

• Watch out for: Ongoing bathroom renovations and uneven room condition; Pub noise in lower-floor rooms; Mandatory nightly resort fee

• Location: Steps from Grand Central, with excellent transit access and plenty of nearby dining.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and generous for Manhattan; bathroom updates, decor and air-conditioning vary.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across sites, despite occasional complaints about worn carpets.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are the most consistent strength in recent reviews.

• Amenities: Wheeltapper pub, patio and room service; refrigerators are not standard or guaranteed.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a nightly resort fee and paid parking; confirm renovation disruption and fitness-access arrangements.
