Axel's take: 8.8/10

Faena delivers bold Chelsea luxury, but quiet-seekers should choose their room carefully. a design-led 5-star luxury hotel beside the High Line, scored for what it is.

Faena New York is a theatrical 5-star in West Chelsea, and it’s a strong pick if conventional luxury hotels leave you cold. Behind the red velvet and statement art, the essentials look convincing: Tripadvisor and Booking.com guests praise spacious, comfortable rooms, while Expedia reviews repeatedly commend cleanliness and warm service. The High Line setting suits gallery visits and downtown wandering, and the now-open Tierra Santa spa adds substance to the spectacle.

The trade-off is the social energy. Some guests report noise, including bass from The Living Room reaching lower-floor bedrooms; light sleepers should request a room well away from the music. Faena Theater remains an upcoming addition in recent reporting, so don’t book expecting the complete entertainment lineup. We’d choose it for a celebratory, design-focused stay rather than hushed, traditional luxury.

• Best for: design-minded luxury travelers; couples celebrating an occasion; Chelsea gallery and High Line visits

• Watch out for: music audible in some lower-floor rooms; Faena Theater opening still pending; valet parking has no in-and-out privileges

• Location: Beside the High Line in West Chelsea; particularly convenient for galleries and Chelsea Market.

• Rooms: Generous space by Manhattan standards, with strong praise for beds, bathrooms and design; views vary.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong guest feedback across Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia.

• Service: Warm staff and concierge service dominate the feedback, though some guests describe uneven problem handling.

• Amenities: Tierra Santa spa, thermal plunge pools, fitness center, La Boca and live music; theater still forthcoming.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast inclusion depends on the booking; valet and dogs incur charges, and public-space photography is restricted.
