Axel's take: 8.8/10

Warm service and reliable comfort make this a strong Midtown base. a traditional 4-star boutique hotel in Midtown Manhattan, scored for what it is.

Executive Hotel Le Soleil is a traditional 4-star boutique hotel whose strongest selling points are practical: a central Midtown location, comfortable beds and unusually consistent praise for its staff. Recent Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly highlight helpful reception teams and clean rooms. We'd put it high on the list for sightseeing trips: Bryant Park, the Empire State Building and Herald Square subway connections are all close by. The style is classic rather than cutting-edge.

Room choice matters. Guests disagree about spaciousness, and four adults with luggage can find shared rooms tight. Street noise affects some lower-floor rooms, while views depend on the category booked. Expedia also lists a mandatory nightly resort fee and a daily incidental deposit; breakfast and nearby parking cost extra. We'd skip it if guaranteed quiet or generous space for four is essential.

• Best for: first-time Manhattan visitors; couples on sightseeing trips; business travelers working in Midtown

• Watch out for: street noise in some lower-floor rooms; tight quarters for four adults; mandatory nightly resort fee

• Location: Walkable Midtown base near Bryant Park, Macy's and Herald Square subway connections.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds; layouts and views vary, so choose the room category carefully.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent reviews on Tripadvisor, Expedia and Booking.com.

• Service: Helpful reception staff and welcoming doormen attract repeated, specific praise.

• Amenities: Fitness room with Peloton bikes, free Wi-Fi, in-room coffee makers and Atlantis Prime restaurant.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a nightly resort fee and daily incidental deposit; breakfast and nearby parking are extra.
