Axel's take: 7.4/10

Clean, modern rooms make a useful base, but the location demands compromise. a modern, practical 4-star chain hotel in an industrial part of Queens, scored for what it is.

This DoubleTree is a practical 4-star in an industrial corner of Long Island City, rather than a luxury New York escape. We'd consider it for a comfortable base outside Manhattan: recent Tripadvisor and Trip.com guests regularly praise clean rooms and helpful staff, and Hilton confirms a restaurant, gym and free Wi-Fi. The subway is roughly a ten-minute walk away, making sightseeing workable without putting you in the middle of it.

The main compromise is the immediate neighborhood, which several guests find uninviting, especially after dark; that is a comfort consideration, not proof the area is unsafe. Small rooms, sound transfer and uneven housekeeping follow-through also recur. Breakfast and valet parking cost extra. We'd skip it for a spacious family stay, light sleepers, or a first visit where lively streets and doorstep convenience matter most.

• Best for: value-minded city visitors; travelers comfortable using the subway; short stays without a car

• Watch out for: industrial surroundings and a walk to the subway; compact rooms and sound transfer; breakfast and valet parking charged separately

• Location: About ten minutes on foot to 21 St–Queensbridge; guests are divided on the immediate surroundings.

• Rooms: Modern and comfortable overall, but compact; noise insulation draws repeated criticism.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength across sources, though missed cleaning and replenishment occasionally recur.

• Service: Many guests praise helpful staff; check-in and housekeeping follow-through are less consistent.

• Amenities: Hilton lists a restaurant, fitness center and free Wi-Fi; no airport shuttle.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast and valet parking are extra; Hilton lists no self-parking.
