Axel's take: 8.0/10

A friendly Midtown base, stronger on convenience than four-star polish. a compact 4-star boutique hotel near Port Authority, scored for what it is.

Distrikt is a compact 4-star boutique hotel near Port Authority, best treated as a comfortable sightseeing base rather than a luxury stay. We'd pick it for walkable access to Broadway, Times Square and subway connections. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds; thoughtful help from the front desk is a particular strength.

The trade-off is uneven polish: several guests describe worn furnishings or minor maintenance problems, while room size and noise experiences vary. The immediate bus-terminal surroundings won't suit everyone seeking a quieter neighborhood feel. Hilton confirms a mandatory daily destination charge with a restaurant-and-bar credit and access to an off-site gym, so those benefits matter most if you'll actually use them. We'd skip it for a pampering hotel-centered trip, but it's a solid choice for spending your days exploring Manhattan.

• Best for: Broadway and sightseeing trips; Travelers prioritizing subway access; Guests who appreciate personable service

• Watch out for: Mandatory daily destination charge; Uneven room condition and occasional noise; Busy bus-terminal surroundings

• Location: Convenient for theaters, Times Square and Port Authority subway connections; not a tranquil setting.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and variable room sizes; recurring reports of worn furnishings and small maintenance issues.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength across guest sites, including recent reviews.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff attract consistent praise, though problem handling is not universally smooth.

• Amenities: Bistro/bar and Wi-Fi; gym access is off-site, and breakfast is not universally included.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory destination charge includes a daily dining credit and gym access; parking costs extra.
