Axel's take: 8.5/10

A dependable Midtown base with standout staff, but some street-level compromises. a practical 3-star chain hotel near Penn Station, scored for what it is.

This practical 3-star Courtyard is a strong pick for travelers who want easy access to Penn Station, Madison Square Garden and Times Square without needing a destination hotel. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and helpful staff, while management confirms refreshed rooms and public spaces. We'd choose it for a sightseeing-heavy visit or short work trip.

The trade-offs are compact rooms, limited storage and some reports of street or air-conditioning noise. Several guests find the immediate block uncomfortable at night, although others explicitly report feeling safe. Breakfast costs extra, and Marriott lists housekeeping every other day. A September 2026 guest also mentioned renovation activity; its current scope is unconfirmed, so check before booking. We'd skip it if quiet surroundings and generous room space matter most.

• Best for: sightseers spending most days out; Penn Station and MSG visitors; short Midtown work trips

• Watch out for: compact rooms and limited storage; street noise and an uneven block atmosphere; confirm any remaining renovation work

• Location: Convenient for Penn Station, MSG and Times Square; opinions differ on the immediate block after dark.

• Rooms: Refreshed and comfortable, but sizes vary; storage and noise are recurring trade-offs.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Expedia, Tripadvisor and other guest feedback.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff receive unusually consistent praise.

• Amenities: Bistro, fitness room and guest laundry; breakfast is not complimentary.

• Fees and surprises: Paid parking and pet charges; housekeeping every other day; current renovation scope needs confirmation.
