Axel's take: 8.5/10

A dependable Manhattan base with roomy accommodation and excellent PATH access. a practical 3-star beside Newport’s PATH station, scored for what it is.

This practical 3-star in Jersey City is a strong pick if you want easy Manhattan access without sleeping in Manhattan. Newport’s PATH station is next door, with waterfront walks and Newport Centre shopping nearby. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the spacious, clean rooms and helpful staff. The indoor pool and hot tub also earn enthusiastic mentions from families; this delivers the useful comforts rather than boutique character.

The trade-offs are fairly straightforward: some rooms show wear, breakfast and parking cost extra, and Marriott lists housekeeping every other day. Management has also announced a full renovation for early 2027, so check the schedule before booking those dates. We’d skip it if you want freshly updated interiors or prefer walking straight out into Manhattan rather than taking a train.

• Best for: families visiting New York; car-free Manhattan sightseeing; Newport business trips

• Watch out for: breakfast and parking cost extra; some dated furnishings; renovation planned for early 2027

• Location: Next to Newport PATH, with the waterfront and shopping close by.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable; some guests flag worn furnishings and uncomfortable sofa beds.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across recent guest reviews, despite occasional lapses.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a recurring strength; housekeeping is scheduled every other day.

• Amenities: Bistro, 24-hour gym and laundry; recent guests confirm enjoying the indoor pool and hot tub.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast, garage parking and pets carry charges; management says a full renovation is planned for early 2027.
