Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong Broadway base if you can trade room space for location and style. a design-led 4-star with tiny rooms near Broadway, scored for what it is.

citizenM is a design-led 4-star that puts its effort into comfortable beds, sociable lounges and a very convenient Broadway location—not spacious bedrooms. We'd pick it for a short, sightseeing-heavy stay. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness and friendly staff, and recent reviews remain strongly positive. The rooftop bar, round-the-clock canteen and gym give you useful places to go beyond your room.

The compact layout is the main compromise: the wall-to-wall bed dominates, luggage space is limited, and the bathroom arrangement offers less privacy than a conventional room. Tablet-operated controls won't suit everyone. Elevator outages and long waits have also appeared in guest reports; check their current status before booking if that would affect your stay. Breakfast costs extra. We'd skip it for a room-centered vacation or if you need generous space to unpack.

• Best for: solo travelers exploring Manhattan; Broadway weekends; couples traveling light

• Watch out for: tiny rooms and limited bathroom privacy; reported elevator outages and waits; tablet-operated room controls

• Location: Excellent for Broadway and Midtown sightseeing, with multiple subway lines nearby.

• Rooms: Compact, modern rooms with oversized beds, rain showers and tablet controls; limited unpacking space.

• Cleanliness: Strong ratings across Booking.com and Expedia, reinforced by recent guest praise.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength across sites.

• Amenities: Rooftop bar, 24-hour canteen, lounge, free Wi-Fi and 24-hour gym.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra; no on-site parking; confirm elevator availability before arrival.
