Axel's take: 8.6/10

Old-school character and dependable comfort in a standout Midtown location a historic 3-star club hotel beside Rockefeller Center, scored for what it is.

3 West Club is a historic 3-star hotel inside the Women's National Republican Club, steps from Rockefeller Center and Fifth Avenue. It's a strong pick for travelers who want a comfortable sightseeing base rather than a fashionable hotel scene. Expedia, Booking.com and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness, welcoming staff and comfortable beds. Traditional furnishings give it personality, and many guests find the rooms reasonably spacious by Manhattan standards.

The trade-offs are the old-fashioned interiors and limited dining schedule: Booking.com lists the restaurant and bar as weekday-only, with a lunch and dinner dress code. Room sizes vary, and Wi-Fi earns weaker feedback than service or comfort. We'd choose it for location and character, but skip it if sleek rooms, dependable working connectivity or full weekend dining matter most.

• Best for: Midtown sightseeing trips; Travelers who like historic character; Radio City and Rockefeller Center visitors

• Watch out for: Old-fashioned interiors and variable room sizes; Restaurant and bar listed as weekday-only; Wi-Fi is a weaker point

• Location: Excellent walkable base beside Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral and several subway lines.

• Rooms: Traditional rather than contemporary; comfortable beds are widely praised, but room sizes vary.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Expedia, Booking.com and Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Guests repeatedly describe the front-desk team as friendly, helpful and welcoming.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, in-room coffee and a restaurant/bar; confirm dining hours before relying on them.

• Fees and surprises: Lunch and dinner have a dress code; Expedia lists a charge for late checkout, subject to availability.
