Axel's take: 7.2/10

A practical downtown base, but the motel-style layout and maintenance issues need weighing. a simple 3-star downtown hotel with a largely motel-style layout, scored for what it is.

The Capitol is a simple 3-star with a largely motel-style layout, best chosen for downtown convenience rather than boutique polish. Broadway and the Ryman are roughly a ten-minute walk away. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, welcoming staff and the included hot breakfast. We'd consider it for a short sightseeing or concert trip where location matters more than spending time in the hotel.

The trade-offs are real: exterior walkways, tired common areas and repeated 2026 reports of the lobby elevator being out of service. An August stay reviewed on Expedia also reported renovation work and an unavailable gym; confirm both facilities before booking. The hotel says newly designed interior-access king rooms are now open, so room category matters. Parking costs extra. We'd skip it if dependable step-free access or consistently polished surroundings are priorities.

• Best for: concertgoers prioritizing walkability; short downtown sightseeing trips; travelers happy with simple accommodations

• Watch out for: exterior walkways and motel-style room access; reported elevator outage and renovation disruption; paid parking

• Location: Walkable to Broadway, the Ryman and Bridgestone Arena without being directly on the nightlife strip.

• Rooms: Generally basic; the hotel advertises newly designed interior-access king rooms alongside exterior-corridor options.

• Cleanliness: Recent reviews predominantly praise clean rooms, despite less flattering reports about common-area condition.

• Service: Friendly front-desk and valet staff are recurring strengths; problem handling receives some criticism.

• Amenities: Hot breakfast and WiFi included; restaurant/bar advertised, but confirm gym availability and elevator operation.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is charged separately; recent guests report renovation disruption and an unavailable lobby elevator.
