Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong downtown pick for boutique character, friendly service and easy Broadway access. a historic 4-star boutique hotel just off Broadway, scored for what it is.

Holston House is a historic 4-star boutique hotel that makes a convincing base for a Nashville weekend. You're a short walk from Broadway, the Ryman and Bridgestone Arena, without staying directly amid the honky-tonks. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests consistently praise welcoming staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. The Art Deco character and rooftop pool give it more personality than a standard downtown chain hotel.

The compromises are mostly practical: some rooms lack clothing storage, the small rooftop pool can get crowded, and occasional street or lobby noise reaches bedrooms. A mandatory daily destination fee and separately charged valet parking also deserve attention. We'd choose it for couples and concert trips; we'd skip it if absolute quiet, sprawling pool space or an extras-free bill matter most.

• Best for: couples on a downtown weekend; concertgoers and Broadway visitors; travelers who prefer boutique character

• Watch out for: mandatory destination fee and paid valet; limited storage in some rooms; occasional noise and a small rooftop pool

• Location: An easy walk to Broadway, the Ryman and Bridgestone Arena, slightly removed from the busiest nightlife.

• Rooms: Stylish and comfortable overall; some guests find clothing storage limited.

• Cleanliness: Strong praise across recent reviews, with occasional housekeeping replenishment lapses.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Amenities: Rooftop pool and bar, TENN restaurant, lobby cocktail reception and a 24-hour gym; rooftop access is weather-dependent.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory daily destination fee; valet parking and cooked-to-order breakfast cost extra.
