#4 of 9 hotels in Munras Avenue by Axel's take. Munras Avenue is #5 of 6 places to stay in Monterey, California. The best hotels in Munras Avenue, ranked · Where to stay in Monterey, California

Axel's take: 7.9/10

Good-value Monterey basics with an indoor pool, but some uneven edges. a budget motel on Monterey’s Munras Avenue, scored for what it is.

Stargazer is a budget motel rather than a full-service hotel, and we’d shortlist it for a practical Monterey break. Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Free parking, in-room microwaves and refrigerators, and an indoor heated pool with a hot tub make it useful for families and road-trippers. Downtown is walkable; Cannery Row is better reached by car.

The trade-offs are inconsistent housekeeping and problem handling, with Tripadvisor feedback noticeably more mixed than the booking sites. Parking can be tight, and there’s no elevator. Guests reported construction in February 2026 and continuing room updates in August; confirm whether work affects your dates. Expect online registration and coded entry rather than a traditional staffed arrival. We’d skip it if polished service or reliably fuss-free stays matter more than value.

Best for: budget-conscious road-trippers; families wanting an indoor pool; short Monterey sightseeing stays
Watch out for: confirm ongoing room-renovation work; tight parking and no elevator; uneven housekeeping and complaint resolution
Location: Walkable to downtown, roughly a 20-minute walk to Fisherman’s Wharf; drive to Cannery Row.
Rooms: Practical rooms with microwaves, refrigerators and coffee makers; guests often praise bed comfort.
Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings, tempered by some recent reports of dirty floors and missed cleaning.
Service: Helpful staff earn frequent praise, but refund handling and room-assignment disputes draw recurring criticism.
Amenities: Indoor heated pool, hot tub, free Wi-Fi and self-service laundry are useful extras for this class.
Fees and surprises: Free first-come parking; damage deposit and early-arrival or late-departure fees; online registration required.
