#3 of 9 hotels in Pacific Grove by Axel's take. Pacific Grove is #3 of 6 places to stay in Monterey, California. The best hotels in Pacific Grove, ranked · Where to stay in Monterey, California

Axel's take: 8.0/10

A good-value coastal base, with practical comforts but uneven rooms and service. A simple, budget-friendly motel and cottage property in Pacific Grove, scored for what it is.

Sea Breeze is a simple motel-and-cottage property in Pacific Grove, and a strong pick for travelers prioritizing coastal walks over hotel facilities. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, friendly staff and the peaceful setting; Booking.com’s overall rating is also solid. Free parking, microwaves and refrigerators make it practical, while selected units add kitchens. The outdoor firepit gives the grounds a welcome gathering spot.

The catch is consistency. Room sizes and layouts vary considerably, and guest feedback includes uncomfortable mattresses, dated details and noise through connecting walls. Tripadvisor also carries several complaints about management and booking disputes, contrasting with the warmer service reports elsewhere. Confirm your exact room type and arrange late arrivals directly. We’d skip it if you need spacious, uniformly modern rooms or dependable full-service attention.

Best for: Budget-conscious coastal explorers; Road-trippers with a car; Dog owners
Watch out for: Variable room sizes and mattress comfort; Noise in rooms with shared walls; Mixed reports on handling booking problems
Location: Near the butterfly sanctuary and Point Pinos; roughly a mile from downtown Pacific Grove, not directly beachfront.
Rooms: Simple rooms and cottages with microwaves and refrigerators; kitchens are available in selected categories.
Cleanliness: Mostly praised across recent booking-site reviews, though individual complaints show standards are not uniform.
Service: Many guests praise friendly staff, but Tripadvisor reports recurring friction over bookings and problem resolution.
Amenities: Free parking and Wi-Fi, an outdoor firepit and picnic space; housekeeping is available upon request.
Fees and surprises: Dogs incur an additional nightly fee; reception hours are limited, so confirm late-arrival arrangements.
