Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong adults-only pick for pool parties, not peaceful luxury. a lively, adults-only beachfront all-inclusive, more party resort than five-star luxury, scored for what it is.

Riu Montego Bay is a lively, adults-only beachfront all-inclusive: we'd choose it for an easy, sociable vacation rather than polished five-star luxury. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, friendly staff and energetic entertainment, while Booking.com's overall feedback is similarly positive. Five pools, water slides and a 24-hour all-inclusive setup give groups plenty to do without leaving the resort.

The biggest trade-off is noise: Tripadvisor guests repeatedly mention loud pool music and aircraft overhead, the downside of being close to the airport. Food earns plenty of praise but also recurring complaints, so expect choice rather than consistently impressive dining. The beach suits lounging better than long walks. It's a strong fit for friends celebrating together; we'd skip it for a quiet honeymoon or a food-focused escape.

• Best for: friends on celebration trips; adults who enjoy pool parties; travelers wanting a short airport transfer

• Watch out for: loud music and aircraft noise; uneven dining feedback; limited beach-walking space

• Location: Beachfront on Mahoe Bay, conveniently close to the airport but exposed to aircraft noise.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and clean; expect practical resort accommodation rather than refined luxury.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength, with recent guests repeatedly praising housekeeping and tidy grounds.

• Service: Friendly, attentive staff earn broad praise, especially in recent Expedia reviews.

• Amenities: Five pools, Splash Water World, themed restaurants, a nightclub, gym and spa.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; an incidental deposit or card authorization may be required at check-in.
