Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong sightseeing base with clean rooms, compact spaces and some noise. a no-frills 3-star in Mexico City’s historic center, scored for what it is.

Hotel Roble is a no-frills 3-star near the Zócalo, and we'd shortlist it for a sightseeing trip on a budget. Its strongest selling points are practical: a walkable historic-center location, generally clean rooms and good value. Booking.com and Expedia guests rate it strongly overall, with cleanliness especially well regarded. Air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and an on-site restaurant cover the essentials without turning this into a hotel you'd visit for its facilities.

The compromises are room size and sound insulation: guest feedback repeatedly mentions compact rooms and noise from neighboring rooms, corridors or plumbing. Staff earn plenty of praise, though service is not uniformly friendly. Breakfast costs extra unless included in your booking. It's a strong pick for travelers spending their days exploring; we'd skip it for spacious downtime or reliably quiet sleep.

• Best for: budget-conscious sightseers; short historic-center stays; travelers exploring on foot

• Watch out for: compact rooms; neighbor and plumbing noise; uneven service

• Location: A few minutes’ walk from the Zócalo, with metro access and historic sights nearby.

• Rooms: Simple, compact rooms with air conditioning; sound insulation is a recurring weakness.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across the major booking sites, despite occasional negative reports.

• Service: Many guests praise welcoming staff, but some recent reviews describe unfriendly interactions.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, restaurant, elevator and 24-hour reception cover the practical basics.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast is generally extra unless included; confirm parking arrangements before bringing a car.
