Axel's take: 8.3/10

Choose it for Mexican architecture, spacious rooms and the pool—not uniformly polished luxury. a historic upscale hotel with sprawling gardens beside Chapultepec, scored for what it is.

Camino Real Polanco is a historic upscale hotel in Anzures, beside Chapultepec and on Polanco’s edge. We think it’s a strong pick for travelers who prefer distinctive Mexican architecture and garden space to another high-rise. Ricardo Legorreta’s colorful design gives it character, while the outdoor heated pool, multiple restaurants and generous rooms make it practical. Recent Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, helpful staff and access to museums.

The catch is uneven room condition: Booking.com and Tripadvisor guests still describe tired furnishings and maintenance shortcomings alongside praise for renovated rooms. Ask specifically for a refurbished room rather than assuming every category looks equally fresh. Reception also draws some service complaints, and the sprawling layout can mean long walks. We’d skip it if you want intimate surroundings or consistently polished luxury; confirm breakfast inclusions and parking terms before booking.

• Best for: architecture and art enthusiasts; families wanting an outdoor pool; Chapultepec museum visits

• Watch out for: uneven condition between rooms; long walks within the hotel; breakfast and parking inclusions need checking

• Location: In Anzures on Polanco’s edge, convenient for Chapultepec and its museums.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, but renovated and older rooms deliver noticeably different experiences.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest ratings for cleanliness; aging furnishings are the more consistent concern.

• Service: Staff earn substantial praise, though reception and problem handling receive some recurring criticism.

• Amenities: Outdoor heated pool, gardens, gym, multiple restaurants and round-the-clock room service.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on the package; the official site lists paid parking while Expedia lists it as included—confirm directly.
