Axel's take: 9.2/10

A strong Kasbah choice for personal service, spotless rooms and traditional character. a small, traditional mid-range riad in Marrakech’s Kasbah, scored for what it is.

Riad Clefs d’Orient is a seven-room, traditional mid-range guesthouse, not a full-service resort. We’d put it high on the list for a Marrakech sightseeing break: Tripadvisor and Booking.com guests consistently praise the welcoming team, cleanliness and generous breakfasts, with recent Expedia feedback largely agreeing. Its Kasbah setting puts the Saadian Tombs and El Badi Palace close by, while guests appreciate returning to somewhere relatively quiet. Moroccan interiors, terraces and home-cooked dinners give it more personality than a standard hotel.

The compromises are mostly about scale and access: room sizes vary, upper floors require stairs, and the small pool setup is better suited to cooling off than swimming laps. Confirm your room category and arrival arrangements beforehand. We’d skip it for step-free access or resort-style facilities; for couples wanting character and helpful hosts, it’s an excellent fit.

• Best for: couples exploring the old city; first-time visitors wanting helpful hosts; travelers who prefer small guesthouses

• Watch out for: stairs to upper floors; room sizes vary; small pools rather than lap swimming

• Location: Kasbah setting near the Saadian Tombs and El Badi Palace; roughly 10–15 minutes’ walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa.

• Rooms: Seven individually decorated rooms; guests praise comfort, but sizes and layouts differ.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Tripadvisor and recent Expedia feedback.

• Service: Warm, practical help with sightseeing, transfers and meals dominates guest feedback.

• Amenities: Small pools, terraces, Wi-Fi and meals; breakfasts and Moroccan dinners receive particular praise.

• Fees and surprises: City tax applies; transfers and dinners may cost extra depending on the booking. Confirm inclusions and arrival time.
