#5 of 5 hotels in Pedregalejo & El Palo by Axel's take. Pedregalejo & El Palo is #8 of 9 places to stay in Málaga. The best hotels in Pedregalejo & El Palo, ranked · Where to stay in Málaga

Axel's take: 5.4/10

Beach convenience is undermined by unreliable check-in and limited support. a bare-bones, self-check-in guesthouse near Pedregalejo beach, scored for what it is.

AYZ Elcano is a bare-bones, self-check-in guesthouse rather than a conventional serviced 3-star hotel. Its strongest draw is Pedregalejo: the beach, restaurants and buses into central Málaga are close. Some recent Expedia guests find the small rooms clean and perfectly adequate for sleeping and showering. But with Booking.com around 5.8/10 and Expedia at 6.0/10, this is a below-par budget option, not an easy recommendation.

The biggest concern is getting inside: Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly describe difficult digital check-in and trouble reaching someone who can help. Noise between rooms also comes up. The hotel confirms that daily cleaning costs extra, only two towels are included, and its Comfort category is in the basement. We'd consider it only for a short, beach-focused stay; skip it if you need dependable personal assistance, quiet or step-free access.

Best for: independent adults comfortable with digital access; short, beach-focused budget stays
Watch out for: check-in failures and hard-to-reach support; basement Comfort rooms and noise transfer; no elevator; cleaning and extra towels cost extra
Location: Near Pedregalejo beach and restaurants, with buses into the city; not an old-town base.
Rooms: Basic private-bathroom doubles; small-room complaints recur, and Comfort rooms are in the basement.
Cleanliness: Many recent Expedia guests praise cleanliness, but stained-linen complaints mean consistency is imperfect.
Service: No physical reception; repeated recent complaints concern digital entry and ineffective remote assistance.
Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning and heating; no elevator or on-site parking.
Fees and surprises: Daily cleaning and extra towels cost extra; official card-guarantee wording differs from booking sites' deposit descriptions.
