Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong Nilefront retreat, though the rooms and service aren't consistently five-star. A traditional five-star Nilefront resort with gardens and older-style rooms, scored for what it is.

Steigenberger Achti is a traditional five-star resort whose strongest assets are its Nile frontage, leafy gardens and relaxed pool areas. We'd pick it for sightseeing days followed by quiet afternoons by the river, rather than cutting-edge luxury. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the views, cleanliness and friendly staff, and a Nile-view room makes the most of the setting. The hotel confirms two heated outdoor pools and its own felucca dock.

The trade-off is uneven polish. Recent guests describe some dated rooms, and several summer reviews report air-conditioning failures requiring room changes. Service is usually warmly reviewed, but attentiveness and food draw mixed feedback. Pushy taxi drivers outside the entrance also recur across sites. It's a strong choice for a restful base; we'd skip it if immaculate modern interiors and seamless luxury service are priorities.

Best for: Couples wanting Nile views; Sightseers mixing temple visits with pool time; Travelers favoring peaceful grounds over modern design
Watch out for: Dated rooms and some recent air-conditioning failures; Uneven dining and service; Persistent taxi drivers outside the entrance
Location: Peaceful East Bank riverfront setting; expect taxi trips to the main sights.
Rooms: Traditional rather than contemporary; Nile-view categories are the standout, but check air conditioning promptly.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across guest feedback, including reviews critical of other aspects.
Service: Staff warmth earns frequent praise, though attentiveness is not uniformly five-star.
Amenities: Two heated outdoor pools, a children's pool, restaurants, gardens, free Wi-Fi and a felucca dock.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra depending on the booking; rollaway beds also carry a charge.
