Axel's take: 8.3/10

Strong on style and cleanliness, but the rooftop party can follow you upstairs. a stylish, nightlife-focused 4-star in central Hollywood, scored for what it is.

The Hollywood Grande is a nightlife-focused 4-star, formerly Thompson Hollywood, and a strong pick if you want Hollywood’s social scene close at hand. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the housekeeping, comfortable rooms and friendly staff. Mid-century styling gives it character, while the rooftop pool, Hollywood Hills views and Bar Lis make staying in part of the attraction. The Walk of Fame is an easy walk away.

The catch is sleep: recent guests across multiple sites report rooftop music reaching bedrooms, including below the top floors. A lower-floor room may help, but don’t treat that as a guarantee. Valet parking and on-site dining also add to the expense, and atrium-facing rooms won’t deliver skyline views. We’d choose it for a lively couples’ or friends’ trip; light sleepers and travelers wanting a quiet retreat should look elsewhere.

• Best for: couples who enjoy nightlife; friends exploring Hollywood; design-minded travelers

• Watch out for: rooftop music reaching guest rooms; costly valet parking and dining; atrium rooms without skyline views

• Location: Walkable to the Walk of Fame and Hollywood restaurants; expect a busy urban setting.

• Rooms: Stylish, comfortable rooms; check whether your booking faces the atrium or city.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent reviews, with housekeeping frequently singled out.

• Service: Mostly warm, helpful service, though some guests report uneven restaurant service and follow-through.

• Amenities: Rooftop outdoor pool, Bar Lis, terrace dining and a fitness center.

• Fees and surprises: Valet parking and pets carry extra charges; rooftop nightlife can affect bedroom quiet.
