Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong budget base for drivers, with clean rooms but no beachside setting. A simple, motel-style budget hotel on Pico Boulevard, scored for what it is.

This simple, motel-style budget hotel is a strong pick if you want Santa Monica without paying for a beachfront address. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff; Booking.com’s ratings support that picture. Included continental breakfast, a courtyard with barbecues and optional kitchenette rooms add practical value, with groceries and casual dining nearby.

The trade-off is location: this is an inland base, not a step-out-to-the-beach stay. Expect to drive or use transit for the pier. Some guests report traffic or neighboring-room noise, so request a room away from Pico Boulevard. Parking and EV charging cost extra, there’s no pool or elevator, and breakfast is basic. We’d skip it for a car-free beach holiday.

• Best for: Budget-conscious road trippers; Families wanting kitchenette options; Travelers with electric cars

• Watch out for: Inland location, well away from the beach; Traffic and neighboring-room noise; Paid parking; no elevator or pool

• Location: Pico Boulevard offers nearby dining, groceries and freeway access; the beach and pier require a longer trip.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable, functional rooms; kitchenettes are available in selected categories, and quieter placement is worth requesting.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong guest feedback across Expedia, Booking.com and Tripadvisor.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are one of the most consistently praised features.

• Amenities: Continental breakfast, Wi-Fi, courtyard barbecues, guest laundry and EV charging; no pool or elevator.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and EV charging carry fees; older reviews describing free parking are no longer reliable.
