Axel's take: 7.6/10

Great for arena nights and social stays, less convincing for quiet comfort. a nightlife-focused mid-range hotel beside the LA Convention Center, scored for what it is.

Moxy Downtown Los Angeles is a nightlife-focused mid-range hotel, not a traditional upscale retreat. We'd pick it for a short stay around Crypto.com Arena or the convention center, especially if bars and restaurants matter more than room space. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests regularly praise helpful staff, and cleanliness is generally a strength. The lively shared spaces are the draw; the compact bedrooms are the compromise.

The bigger catch is sleep: recent guests on both sites report Level 8 party music reaching rooms. Marriott also confirms that hotel-guest pool hours end early Thursday through Sunday, so don't assume an evening swim. A mandatory destination fee and expensive valet parking further weaken value. We'd skip it for light sleepers, families needing space, or anyone expecting conventional four-star comfort.

• Best for: arena and concert visitors; nightlife-minded couples; short convention stays

• Watch out for: Level 8 party noise reaching bedrooms; compact rooms; destination fee and restricted pool hours

• Location: Excellent for walking to Crypto.com Arena, LA Live and the convention center.

• Rooms: Modern but compact; recent guests on Expedia and Tripadvisor report intrusive party noise.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength in Expedia's ratings and recent reviews, despite some contrary Tripadvisor reports.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn repeated praise, though complaint handling is less consistent.

• Amenities: A 24-hour gym and independently operated Level 8 pool; guest swimming ends midafternoon Thursday through Sunday.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a mandatory nightly destination fee and deposit; Marriott confirms paid valet parking.
