Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong luxury pick for Downtown culture, less practical for a Westside vacation. a contemporary 5-star luxury hotel in Downtown LA’s arts district, scored for what it is.

Conrad Los Angeles is a contemporary 5-star on Bunker Hill, and we'd put it high on the list for a Downtown-focused stay. Its strongest credentials go beyond the architecture: Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable modern rooms and welcoming staff. Walt Disney Concert Hall is across the street, while the rooftop pool, full-service spa and well-regarded dining make staying in appealing, too.

The main trade-off is choosing Downtown, not a shortfall in the rooms. We'd skip it for a trip centered on beaches, Beverly Hills or West Hollywood, where cross-city travel can eat into your day. A mandatory destination charge and expensive valet parking also deserve attention at this level. Service feedback is overwhelmingly positive, though occasional reports of slow pool or bar service suggest the polish isn't completely uniform.

• Best for: Concertgoers and museum visitors; Downtown business travelers; Design-minded couples

• Watch out for: Mandatory destination charge; Expensive valet parking; Inconvenient for beach and Westside itineraries

• Location: Excellent for the Concert Hall, Broad and Music Center; choose it for Downtown, not all of LA.

• Rooms: Modern, thoughtfully designed rooms draw strong praise for comfort, beds and views.

• Cleanliness: A standout strength across Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia feedback.

• Service: Warm, professional staff are widely praised; occasional pool and bar delays surface.

• Amenities: Rooftop outdoor pool, full-service spa, fitness center and well-regarded restaurants.

• Fees and surprises: Budget for the mandatory destination charge and costly valet; check which credits your booking includes.
