Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong, simple Universal base, with welcoming staff and parking charges to factor in. a no-frills chain hotel in North Hollywood, scored for what it is.

This no-frills North Hollywood chain hotel is a strong pick for travelers who want clean, comfortable basics rather than a resort experience. Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, spacious rooms and comfortable beds, with recent reviews keeping that positive picture intact. Included hot breakfast, in-room fridges and microwaves make it particularly practical for families spending their days at Universal or the studios.

The trade-off is location: this is a driving base, not a hotel beside Universal’s entrance, and the Metro station is a substantial walk away. Parking now costs extra, despite the independent hotel website describing it as included. The pool is a modest bonus rather than a reason to book. We’d choose it for straightforward comfort and helpful service; skip it for a walkable sightseeing stay or extensive leisure facilities.

• Best for: families visiting Universal with a car; budget-conscious studio sightseers; travelers prioritizing clean, comfortable basics

• Watch out for: daily parking charge; Universal requires transportation; limited pool appeal

• Location: Useful for driving to Universal and the studios; less convenient for sightseeing on foot.

• Rooms: Guests commonly praise spacious rooms and comfortable beds; fridges and microwaves add practicality.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and recent Expedia reviews.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are the clearest recurring highlight across sources.

• Amenities: Included hot breakfast, free Wi-Fi and a swimming pool cover the essentials.

• Fees and surprises: Budget for paid parking: Choice and Expedia contradict the independent website’s included-parking claim.
