#4 of 5 hotels in Centro Histórico by Axel's take. Centro Histórico is #3 of 6 places to stay in León. The best hotels in Centro Histórico, ranked · Where to stay in León

Axel's take: 6.7/10

A practical downtown base, but aging rooms and unreliable basics limit its appeal. an older, budget-minded 3-star in León’s historic center, scored for what it is.

Hotel Real Rex is an older, budget-minded 3-star whose strongest selling point is its position beside León’s main square. We’d consider it for a short, location-first stay rather than a hotel-centered trip. Booking.com guests rate the location much more highly than the facilities, and recent Expedia reviews regularly praise helpful staff and clean rooms. Free parking and the on-site El Dorado restaurant add practical appeal.

The trade-off is maintenance, not simply old-fashioned décor. Guests in 2025 and 2026 repeatedly describe worn furnishings and carpets, with recurring complaints about air-conditioning and elevator performance. Cleanliness earns reasonable marks overall, but room comfort is less consistent, and Wi-Fi also draws criticism. Confirm breakfast inclusion and your room’s cooling arrangements before booking. We’d skip it if dependable step-free access, modern interiors or reliable climate control are priorities.

Best for: budget-minded downtown visitors; short sightseeing stays; travelers prioritizing walkability
Watch out for: worn rooms and carpets; recurring elevator complaints; inconsistent air-conditioning
Location: Beside the main square, with the cathedral and downtown restaurants a short walk away.
Rooms: Older furnishings and carpets; comfort and cooling vary between guest reports.
Cleanliness: Generally acceptable recent ratings, though worn carpets can look stained.
Service: Many guests praise helpful staff, but front-desk experiences are not uniformly positive.
Amenities: El Dorado restaurant, free parking, Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception; elevator reliability draws complaints.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast inclusion varies by booking plan; confirm room air-conditioning rather than assuming it.
