Axel's take: 8.2/10

A friendly, well-located budget base, provided you can accept aging rooms and uneven showers. a simple 3-star aparthotel in central Bayahibe, scored for what it is.

Villa Baya is a simple 3-star aparthotel in Bayahibe village, a short walk from the beach, restaurants and boats to Saona Island. It's a strong pick for independent travelers who want convenience rather than resort facilities. Tripadvisor guests and Booking.com reviews reproduced on Planet of Hotels repeatedly praise the helpful staff, breakfast and value. The courtyard gives it a sociable feel, and overall guest ratings remain strong.

The compromise is room condition: several 2026 guests describe tired interiors and bathrooms needing attention. Hot water is a recurring weakness, and street or neighboring-room noise can interrupt sleep. Cleanliness feedback is mostly positive, though not unanimous. We'd choose it for a practical village stay, but skip it if reliably hot showers, modern finishes or quiet nights are priorities.

  • Best for: budget-conscious independent travelers; Saona Island excursion stays; couples wanting a walkable village base

  • Watch out for: inconsistent hot water; dated rooms and bathrooms; variable sound insulation

  • Location: Central village setting, within walking distance of Bayahibe Beach, restaurants and the port.

  • Rooms: Air-conditioned rooms and apartments; confirm kitchenette equipment for your specific unit.

  • Cleanliness: Generally praised, but some recent guests report bathroom-cleaning shortcomings.

  • Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a consistent strength across guest reviews.

  • Amenities: Garden courtyard, Wi-Fi and free parking; Expedia lists breakfast included and no elevator.

  • Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; Expedia lists limited reception hours, so arrange late arrivals ahead.
